After the events at Black Mesa, you were locked away in stasis for years as the Combine conquered the Earth. Alyx Vance (portrayed here by Alyssa Divine), daughter of Black Mesa scientist Eli Vance, is here to greet you when you're let out of that stasis. She's heard the legends about "The One Free Man", but meeting him in person is a whole other level.
